A History of the World in Twelve Maps
complete with a postcard from Lee;
2008, I’m setting out on a new stage
and this summer he’s a year dead.
From the oikumene to map the whole world,
from the body to the hearth to the horizon;
the outer salt-sea’s no province for the living
though we walked the shoreline from your door.
The moon has made the sea milky,
opaque the memory of our commonweal,
that lost country where we once followed
a different life in the nation of now.
